Jim LeClaire Photography

Hi, I'm Jim LeClaire!

I began my photography journey in my High School with the photo club. I was facinated with the process of capturing an image on film and then developing it in the darkroom. I was hooked!

I attended a two year photography school learning Portraiture, Photojournalism and Commercial photography.

I love how photography demands both patience and spontaneity. It teaches me to slow down, to notice the subtle shifts in light or the expression on someone’s face just before they smile. Whether I’m wandering through a city or hiking through nature, my camera is an extension of how I connect with the world around me.

My Top Three Favorite National Parks

Grand Canyon National Park

There are literally millions of compositions to be found at the Grand Canyon, I could spend months there exploring with my camera.

This is one of my favorite of the Grand Canyon taken 14 years ago on my 50th birthday. I wish I had known about Photography Academy then!

Nantucket, MA.

I hope to return to Nantucket to really capture some breathtaking photos. It has so much potential!

North Brookfield, MA.

There is beauty right in your own 'back yard' or close by. You don't need to travel far to find simple nature shots. In fact, your friends will appreciate more local and recognizable scenes.

What Photography Means To Me

Photography changed my life

Photography helps me look at the world in a different way. Because of photography, I notice shapes and patterns that nobody else seems to notice, and I want to photograph them! I seem to pick out leading lines, or naturally occurring frames in the landscape, and I often pull out my phone to take a quick snapshot.

I truly believe that photography helps me enjoy my surroundings more. I have a new appreciation for the beauty of the earth, and I love sharing that beauty with others through my photos. More than just an artistic outlet, photography has become a way for me to be present, mindful, and more deeply connected to the world around me.

I LOVE waterfalls! This photo was taken in Northbridge, MA. off Linwood Ave.

My Camera

I love my camera deeply—not just as a tool, but as a constant companion in my journey through life.

It's been with me across continents, capturing moments both grand and intimate, giving me the power to freeze time and tell stories through light and perspective. From quiet alleys in old towns to sweeping mountain vistas, it has helped me see the world more clearly and express the way I feel about it.

My favorite Photo

I have a difficult time choosing my favorite photo. It is a similar task to choosing my favorite song, or favorite food. It's not easy.

I find that the photo that might be my favorite today will change by next month, and that is because I tend to get attached to the most recent photos I have taken. With that said, this photo is my favorite this month...haha. By next month I hope I will have taken a new photo that I love even more!

This photo was taken on our family's estate. We had hayfields in wich our family cut the hay each summer.
